In the summer of 2011 a group of young Luctonians will depart from Mortimer Park on another epic journey to South Africa.
The group will be made up of players from the 2010/11 U16s squad and they will be following in the footsteps of the very successful 2006 Sun Valley Rugby Project Ambassadors Tour.
These young Luctonians once again have the opportunity to help with the promotion of rugby to the disadvantaged children of South Africa's deprived and rural communities.
Contrary to popular belief, such a trip is much more than playing rugby, going on safari, and eating vast quantities of cheap food. It is about 3 years hard work and preparation to learn how sport can have a positive influence on disadvantaged peoples' lives. |
A highlight of 2006 was the players' involvement in running coaching clinics for primary aged children in such romantically named places as Extension39, Witbank.

Building on the experience of the 2006 tour, it is our intention to qualify all the tour party as Tag Rugby Coaches. We will give tag coaching experience to the squad so they can confidently link in with Tag Rugby projects being run in South Africa that Luctonians have been involved with since 2006.
Luctonians has been involved with rugby development in South Africa since 2000. It began with the founding of the Boots for All Project by club member Andy Kirk, and has sent approximately 15,000 pairs of second hand boots and trainers to SA which have been used by SARU in their development programme 'Make it your Game'.
We also delivered tag rugby equipment and coach training in the 'Cape Flats' area in 2007. To find out more about Luctonians involvement in South Africa click on Tour Ethos. |
